A truck driver named John was in court after a terrible accident where he drove his truck through a busy farmer's market, killing fifty people.
The courtroom was quiet as the prosecutor stepped forward and looked straight at John.
The prosecutor said, "John, we have the tire marks. We have people who saw what happened. You were driving down a straight road. On your left, there was one man fixing a flat tire. On your right, there was a crowded market with fifty people. You turned right into the crowd. How do you explain that?"
Wiping his forehead and looking upset, John replied, "It was awful, sir. I was going down the hill when my brakes failed completely. I was speeding! I had only a second to decide."
The prosecutor asked, "And you chose to hit fifty people instead of just one man?"
John said, "No! Of course not! I’m not a monster. I was aiming for that one guy!"
The prosecutor, even more confused, yelled, "Then how did you end up crashing through the whole market and killing fifty people?"
John sighed and said, "Well, just as I was about to hit him… the idiot started running toward the crowd!
