One Eye One Ear

A police officer was testing three men training to be detectives. To see how well they could spot a suspect, he showed the first man a photo for five seconds, then covered it. "This is your suspect—how would you recognize him?"

The first man said, "That’s easy—we’d catch him fast because he only has one eye!"

The officer replied, "Well… that’s because the photo shows his side profile."

Observational Skills Under Scrutiny

Annoyed by the silly answer, he quickly showed the photo to the second man and asked the same question.

The second man grinned, flipped his hair, and said, "Ha! He’d be super easy to catch—he only has one ear!"

The officer snapped, "What’s wrong with you two?! Of course only one eye and one ear show—it’s a side view! Is that really the best you can do?"

A Surprising Insight Emerges

Frustrated, he showed the photo to the third man and said sharply, "This is your suspect—how would you recognize him? Think carefully before giving a dumb answer."

The third man studied the photo for a moment and said, "The suspect wears contact lenses."

The officer was stunned—he didn’t even know whether the suspect wore contacts.

"That’s a surprising answer. Wait here while I check his file."

He left, looked up the suspect’s record on his computer, and returned smiling.

"Wow! It’s true—he does wear contact lenses! Great job! How did you figure that out?"

"That’s easy," the third man said. "He can’t wear regular glasses—he only has one eye and one ear.
