Honk for Jesus Joy

A Divine Encounter at the Intersection

At 92, our grandma still lives independently with a vibrant spirit. Here's her latest story, shared in a letter to her granddaughter.

The "Honk If You Love Jesus" Sticker

"Dear Granddaughter," she wrote, "I just have to tell you about the most profound religious experience I had the other day."

After choir practice and a spirited prayer meeting, Grandma visited a local Christian bookstore. Feeling joyful, she bought a "HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS" bumper sticker and proudly displayed it on her car.

A Traffic Light Revelation

Stopped at a red light, lost in prayer, she didn’t notice the light turn green. Then the honking began—a chorus of devotion.

"That’s when I learned how many people truly love Jesus!" she exclaimed.

One enthusiastic driver leaned out of his window, shouting, "SWEET JESUS! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GO!! JESUS CHRIST, GO! GO! GO!!!"

Spreading the Love

Overcome with joy, Grandma waved, smiled, and honked in return.

  • One man yelled about "sunny beaches," likely from Florida.
  • Another gave her the middle finger. Her grandson Ralphie explained it was a Native American good luck sign.

In a gesture of goodwill—and double luck—Grandma returned the sign with both hands. Ralphie burst out laughing.

A Moment of Fellowship

The love became contagious—people got out of their cars and approached hers. She thought they wanted to pray or share their faith. But the light changed again.

Smiling and waving, she drove through the intersection—the only car to make it before the light turned red once more.

A Final Gesture of Faith

Reluctant to leave her new friends, Grandma stopped one last time and gave the good luck sign before driving off.

"Praise the Lord!" she concluded.

Love,
Grandma
